About CSS
The Computer Science Society (CSS) is an undergraduate student club at Cal Poly Pomona dedicated to education and professional development in the area of computer science. We're also out to have a good time.
We are a student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). We are affiliated with the Science Council. We are part of the Google Ambassador program, which means some of our more frivolous events are funded by Google, a company that understands the need for a good study break.
We are open to all majors, though for some reason, we are predominantly CS. Help us diversify. Join our club! Membership dues are a mere $10. If you pay $30, we'll throw in ACM Student membership.
Our weekly meetings often include a student or faculty presentation on a computer science topic. We will sometimes have guest speakers, and there is often recruiting for internships.
We have a number of fun activities planned throughout the year including programming competitions, Movie Night, our quarterly Study Breaks (aka the LAN/game console parties), and our annual picnic.
We also have several interesting projects in the works. This website, for example, is hosted on our own Unix server, and we are intent on building our own homebrewed web applications. There is talk about setting up a Beowulf cluster, holding Unix workshops, and even getting involved with robotics.
This year, we seek to establish closer ties with other clubs on campus, such as KME and IEEE.
The current president of the club is Sean Taylor. Anthony Mendez (but just Mendez) is Vice President. Josh Scoggins is Treasurer. Cesar Davila is Secretary. Lan Dang is the Events Coordinator. Kevan Carstensen occasionally attends Science Council meetings on our behalf. Our benevolent advisor is Dr. Craig Rich.
